President’s Message – West
Serving the Grand Rapids Community Bank
Posted on September 19, 2014 in President's Message
Maybe it’s just me, but the summer months just seem to pass by too quickly. I hope you enjoyed a great summer in West Michigan!
The staff of Chemical Bank was busy, not only enjoying summer, but also taking time to give back to the community. We’re proud to be part of this community and feel it’s important to invest in West Michigan to enrich the areas where we live, work and play.
There are numerous examples of how the staff of Chemical Bank serves in the community, and I want to take a moment to share a few highlights.
One of the highlights for many communities in West Michigan is the county fair that takes place late in the summer. You likely attended one and may have even participated in some of the activities or exhibits. Chemical Bank has a long history of supporting the livestock auctions at the local county fairs. We do it because we believe in supporting the young people who work hard to raise animals for the annual auction. These life lessons of hard work, dedication and entrepreneurial ambition are values that we encourage.
Another highlight of our summer is the Chemical Bank 5K, which takes place in the Byron Center community in late July. I mention this race because this year we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the event. Over 800 runners came out to help support the community, raising over $10,000 for local charities. Of course, the event couldn’t take place without countless hours of work by Chemical Bank staff members to organize the race. For more information about the Chemical Bank 5K and pictures from this year’s event, please see the Community Spotlight in this newsletter.
The last item I want to share is an upcoming event this fall. For the second year, Chemical Bank’s West Michigan team of over 400 staff members will participate in “Chemical Bank Cares” day in October. We close the bank for a day and partner with over 40 local nonprofit organizations on projects that range from park clean-up to housing rehab. It’s a great day of service, and a way for us to say thank you to this community that we’re blessed to call home.
I always welcome our customers’ thoughts and opinions; if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 616.588.7424 or Joel.Rahn@ChemicalBankMI.com.
