President’s Message

North Michigan Region

Every day at Chemical Bank we work to facilitate the dreams of our communities and neighbors. When you take our 100-year-old hometown approach to banking, and combine it with Northern Michigan’s small town culture, you find a formula for success.

Having grown up in Northern Michigan, and returning later in life to raise a family, I understand what makes this place we call home special. I currently serve as the North Region President, supporting our local staff and their community banking efforts in 24 counties across the northern part of the state. The most enjoyable part of my job is watching how the dedication and expertise of the team at Chemical Bank helps Northern Michigan, our community, prosper.

Over the past several years, Chemical Bank’s growth has brought change for us and for you. I truly appreciate your continued support and business as we strive to provide the best possible customer experience. Our everlasting commitment to community banking insures local leadership and decision-making, allowing us to understand and meet your needs.

We call that ‘creating community chemistry,’ and it also involves employee community involvement. You can head to the Community Spotlight section of this newsletter for a few examples, but one I want to highlight is our Teach Children to Save program. During the week of April 24th, over 60 North Region employees visited 40-plus second grade classrooms to teach over 1,300 students about financial literacy. We do this because we care.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Points of Interest, and thank you for your continued business.

Sincerely,

Scot Zimmerman
North Region President

West Michigan Region

In our society, age isn’t something that we often celebrate (especially if you’re like me, and have celebrated a few too many milestone birthdays!). However, I want to take a moment and reflect on Chemical Bank’s 100th anniversary.

That’s right, Chemical Bank was founded in Midland, Michigan, in March 1917, and we’ve been helping our customers make their dreams a reality ever since. Today, we’ve grown into the largest bank headquartered in our state, and we’re very proud of our hometown heritage.

Certainly, much has changed for our customers and our organization over time; but one thing that hasn’t changed is our continual focus on serving our customers and the communities that we call home.

One of most significant changes to impact the way we serve our customers is the ever-advancing technology that has helped us all to stay connected on the go. While our banking centers continue to be an important resource in serving our customers, we also recognize that many of our customers want and expect the convenience of banking anytime and anywhere. Our convenient mobile banking and online banking services offer that convenience.

I’m excited to share with you our latest update – Mobile Wallet, which will allow our customers to use their smartphones for debit card purchases. This is a safe and convenient way for our customers to use their debit cards.

We appreciate you as a customer of Chemical Bank, and look forward to serving West Michigan for the next 100 years!

Sincerely,

Joel Rahn
West Michigan Region President

It is a season of many exciting milestones and changes at Chemical Bank! In November, our East Region staff grew by over 200 employees through a merger with Talmer Bank & Trust. With that partnership, the East expanded into several new markets, including the new Port Huron and Flint Community Banks, and expanded our already-existing Caro Community Bank. These market expansions took us from 46 banking center locations to 64 total locations across the region – even more convenient locations through which we can better meet your financial needs!

On March 14, Chemical Bank celebrated its 100th anniversary – an entire century of creating community chemistry. What started out in Midland, MI, with three employees and $50,000 in assets has grown to $17 billion in assets and nearly 250 locations in three states. While our footprint has grown, we’ve remained committed to our founding principles: providing personalized service, local and rapid decision-making, all while improving the quality of life in communities where we live, work and play. We look forward to honoring our customers, communities and employees who have enabled our success throughout this century-long journey.

Earlier this year, Chemical Bank offices collected items and monetary donations through our brand new Winter Wishes campaign. Each banking center location chose a “wish list” of items to collect from their community members and a local organization to which those items and monies would be donated. The wish lists contained items that ranged from school and pet supplies to essential items and warm weather clothing. I am so humbled by the support our communities showed that allowed us to help over 50 community organizations across the region.

Chemical Bank prides itself on providing enjoyable, valuable memorable experiences to you. Your feedback is what allows my colleagues and me to improve upon what we do each and every day. If you feel we have met or exceeded your expectations, please tell your friends, families and business partners. If you would like to share an exceptional experience or feel we haven’t met your expectations in some way, please reach out to me directly at Donna.McAvoy@ChemicalBank.com or (231) 932-6698.

Sincerely,

Donna McAvoy
East Region President and Director of Retail Banking

Southwest Michigan Region

photo-Rick-DeVriesHappy Spring! At Chemical Bank, we are committed to the communities where we live, work and play, and we are proud to build our roots deeper with the opening of our new Kalamazoo Midtown Banking Center. In February, we finished construction at 1910 Parkview Avenue and opened the doors to our full-service location where we welcomed new manager, Tasha Fey, and her staff.

The new construction is part of a growing community partnership to boost surrounding neighborhoods and took place at an abandoned Brownfield Redevelopment lot, formerly the site of a gas station. In conjunction with Southwest Michigan First, we held a ribbon cutting ceremony and an all-day grand opening celebration on February 10th.

During the celebration our guests enjoyed a delightful breakfast and lunch catered by Millennium Catering, tours of the branch, free giveaways and an opportunity to register to win a gift basket filled with Detroit Tigers swag and 4 tickets to a Tiger’s game of choice. Proving to be victorious and walking away with the gift basket was Marc Tourangeau! Special guests such as Mary Balkema, Kalamazoo County Treasurer, Margaret O’Brien, State Senator of the 20th District, and State Representatives Brandt Iden and Jon Hoadley were also on hand to show their support of Chemical Bank’s commitment to help grow the Kalamazoo community.

Not only did we add a new location in the Kalamazoo area for your banking convenience, but with the recent merger of Talmer Bank we are excited to gain three new offices in the South Region, which extends our service area into the Indiana market. In Portage, Michigan, we added a location on Milham Avenue and we are now located in both Goshen, Indiana, and Elkhart, Indiana. This merger expanded our footprint to three states and over 240 banking center locations for your convenience.

In addition to this large growth, we celebrated our 100th anniversary! We are honored to have served you for the past century and look forward to continued partnership and community support. Stop by any banking center to learn more about our history and products or visit our website!

Sincerely,

Rick DeVries
Southwest Region President

Southeast Michigan Region

I am proud to lead our Southeast Michigan team into a very exciting time. For those of you who I have not yet had the chance to meet, I joined the Bank in early December as the Regional Bank President leading the charge for all business lines in Southeast Michigan. I am humbled by the opportunity to work with our great customers and employees to make a positive impact on our communities.

I also want to share with you that we are focused to grow the talent level here at Chemical Bank. We are proud to announce the promotion of Laura Castone to the position of Community Reinvestment Act Market Manager. We also hired Joshua Rennert into our Wealth Management division as a Financial Planner.

I hope you enjoy the highlights in our community spotlight, written by our team members, including Laura and Joshua, and I look forward to connecting again soon.

Sincerely,

Jamie LynchIt is an exciting time as we welcome Chemical Bank to Ohio! We are proud to be a part of this growing and dynamic organization and look forward to exploring new opportunities and experiences. Although our name has changed, our commitment to providing exceptional products and customer service continues.

As the Northeast Ohio Regional President, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am an alumnus of John Carroll University, St. Louis University and Case Western Reserve University. With more than 24 years of commercial banking experience, I have held senior commercial banking positions at Citizens Republic Bank, Sky Bank, Fifth Third Bank and Key Bank.

In addition, I am an active participant in various charitable and community activities, including Cleveland Clinic Children’s, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children, Inner City Tennis Clinics, Ronald McDonald House, the Adoption Network Cleveland and Vocational Guidance Services.

The Northeast Ohio region – including Cleveland, Elyria, Akron, Canton and Mentor – is a great area full of outstanding organizations and wonderful people. We are teaming up with charitable organizations like the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio and participating in opportunities with Junior Achievement and the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation, just to name a few.

We are excited about the year ahead as Northeast Ohio has become Chemical Bank’s seventh region. While our employees and associates are well-known in this region, we are excited about introducing Chemical Bank to this market. If you have any concerns, comments or questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me at Jamie.Lynch@ChemicalBank.com or (216) 706-3709.
