President’s Message

North Region

Chemical Bank has seen many exciting changes in the last year. Last fall, we welcomed aboard nearly 250 staff members and expanded our branch network by adding 21 branches through the Northwestern Bank acquisition. We finalized a partnership with Monarch Community Bank, which further expanded our customer base in southern Michigan. In January, we announced a planned partnership with Lake Michigan Financial, which is the holding company for the Bank of Northern Michigan and the Bank of Holland. These exciting relationships allow Chemical Bank to provide even greater service to our customers by increasing the number of offices through which we serve you!

In the summer of 2014, I was honored to accept an opportunity to provide leadership for the rapidly expanding North Region. At that time, I moved to Traverse City from Owosso, transitioning from the Owosso Community President to the North Region President. I am thankful for the kindness that Traverse City has shown me and I look forward to continuing to support the wonderful communities we have here in Northern Michigan! In addition to my role as Regional President, I also serve as the Director of Retail Banking.

Chemical Bank strives to provide opportunities for our customers and communities. Did you know that we offer a wide range of financial education opportunities? Classes include budgeting, credit building and repair, savings and homeownership, among others. We can also provide education on various special loan programs such as FHA, VA and Small Business Administration programs. This information is available and we would be happy to share these resources with you. If you or your community group has an interest in learning more, please contact your local Chemical Banker or visit ChemicalBankMI.com.

Chemical Bank’s mission is to provide enjoyable, valuable and memorable service to you. If you feel we have done so, please tell a friend, family member or business associate. If you would like to share an exceptional experience, or do not feel we have met your expectations for any reason, please feel free to contact me directly at Donna.McAvoy@ChemicalBankMI.com or (231) 932-6698.

Sincerely,

Donna-McAvoy

West Region

I hope you’re having a great summer and enjoying all that West Michigan has to offer!

I don’t know about you, but it seems like summer just goes by too quickly for all of the things that I want to do. Plus, I’ve noticed that summer isn’t typically the time that I focus on financial matters – just too busy enjoying friends and family while being outdoors. However, there is a danger to taking a “summer-long vacation” when it comes to financial planning.

Summer may actually be a perfect time for a mid-year checkup! Take some time during the next few months to consider the following:

  • Do you have a will, including a plan of who would handle your financial affairs if you’re not able to?
  • How are you doing on meeting your financial goals?
  • Are you considering a significant event, such as a new home or second home?

We want to be your trusted advisor to help you answer any of the questions listed above as well as any others that you may have. As a Community Bank, we take a one-on-one approach to our customer relationships, and have experienced, dedicated professionals that are here to help. Whatever your goals or stage in life, we can help you make the right financial choices. Chemical Bank is committed to delivering the guidance and support that you need to reach your financial goals. Using a team approach, we will provide you with expertise that spans business, personal and investment services.

Let us take the worry out of your financial planning so that you can enjoy a great summer! Please feel free to stop by your local Chemical Bank office, give our Customer Care Center a call at (800) 867-9757 or visit us online at ChemicalBankMI.com.

I always welcome our customers’ thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (616) 588-7424 or Joel.Rahn@ChemicalBankMI.com.

Sincerely,

Joel-Rahn

East Region

Change is a part of life and that includes business. I am pleased to announce my new position as the East Region President for Chemical Bank! I’m excited to assume this role, succeeding Bob Rathbun, who has accepted a new position as Chemical Bank’s Chief Operating Officer – Customer Experience. These recent transitions will produce a wonderful opportunity for infusing new inspiration, experience and history into the East Region as we immerse ourselves into our new roles.

As the new East Region President, I would like to take this opportunity to share a little about myself. I am a graduate of Michigan State University as well as the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Prior to my Chemical Bank career, I served as Senior Vice President and Head of Retail Banking and Operations for Shoreline Bank in Benton Harbor, Michigan (Shoreline was purchased by Chemical Bank in 2000). Prior to Shoreline Bank, I was a Regional Manager with Michigan National Bank. I have proudly served in the financial services industry for over 29 years and look forward to continuing my career with all of our East Region customers, community partners and Chemical Bankers.

Leadership roles are not the only changes happening in our East Region; Bay City is also expanding along the Saginaw River! Referred to as “Uptown Bay City,” exciting development is taking place, which is practically allowing Uptown to become its own little city by the river. The first Brownstone Apartment units are leased out and construction is already underway on a second set.

The changes don’t stop there! Construction is underway on Don Angelos Aveda Lifestyle Salon, the Courtyard Hotel and a whole new building to feature the Willow Tree Restaurant and Monitor Sugar. A brand new McLaren Bay Region building will also call Uptown Bay City home. As if that weren’t enough to draw in the crowds, there are also free concerts on Thursday evenings throughout the summer. The next time you are in Bay City, be sure to stop Uptown or visit www.uptownbaycity.com and enjoy all of the new community excitement! A wide variety of tenants line the streets in this area, including The Fix coffee shop, Uptown Grill, Dow Corning, The Real Seafood Company and of course, Chemical Bank.

The new Chemical Bank office in Uptown features a “bank of the future” concept – new teller pods allow the Chemical Bank tellers to not only provide routine banking services, but also open accounts and process consumer loans as well. We invite you to experience the modern, sophisticated feel of the new office for yourself while taking in the ambiance of Uptown Bay City.

I hope we have provided you with an experience worth bragging about – feel free to “brag” or address any concerns by contacting me at (989) 839-5455 or Ken.Johnson@ChemicalBankMI.com.

Sincerely,

Ken-Johnson

South Region

photo-Rick-DeVriesSummer in Michigan is in full swing, and it is in the midst of the sun, the blue skies and the festivities throughout the southern region of Michigan that I greet you. By way of introduction, I was delighted to join Chemical Bank in April, succeeding Lynn Kerber, who was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Management Officer of Chemical Bank. For those of you who know Lynn, you know what an outstanding job she did as the Regional President of the South Region, and how much she will be sincerely missed. We are excited however, for her new opportunity, and for the continued leadership she will provide to Chemical Bank.

My new association with Chemical Bank comes through the acquisition by Chemical of Monarch Community Bank, where I had served as President & CEO. Hence, I join the Chemical family with the same passion for community banking – and for the people we serve – as the rest of the great team members here at Chemical. This is an outstanding financial institution with an unparalleled commitment to create an exceptional experience for you.

In that regard, we will earnestly and consistently provide information that might assist you in saving time and/or money. For example, in this summer edition of Points of Interest, you will find information regarding:

  1. Getting your key papers in order
  2. Putting mortgage rates in perspective
  3. Checking in with your Financial Advisor (yes, you can and should have one!)
  4. A review of the role of community banks as trusted financial institutions

Likewise, we will earnestly and consistently make an effort to learn about you, your family, your plans and your dreams – all so that we can help you achieve them. Like a good physician, the more we know about you, the better positioned we are to provide you with products, ideas and services that can help save you time and money.

In all of these efforts, we hope to exceed your expectations. If we don’t, then please don’t hesitate to call me directly at (517) 442-5988 or email me at Richard.Devries@ChemicalBankMI.com. Of course, if we do, I would love to hear of any exceptional experiences you have had, and will look forward to those messages.

On behalf of all of us here at Chemical Bank, we sincerely appreciate the privilege and trust you have given us to serve you, and I look forward to our future – and continued – association.

With gratitude,

Rick DeVries

Regional President
